Our mission as an independent African woman owned and operated business is to educate & empower the Diaspora & positively develop Pan African economics for all shades of brown, spanning all cultures & ethnicities by providing quality handcrafted wearable art from the MOTHERLAND.
Ellen Agyeman (aka Mama Ellen), store owner for over 20 years & her daughter Rachel Adejobi; have successfully worked hand & hand producing generational wealth & spreading ancestral knowledge of Ashanti culture to the Bay Area & beyond. The dynamic duo collaborate & partner with designers & craftsmen of fabrics, woods, stones, fine minerals primarily in North, East, West, & South African regions.
Sankofa Oakland beliefs & practices the gift of returning home & bringing those left behind to a present place that is filled with peace, encouragement, & power. We show our love by joining with Oakland Black grassroot non-profit organizations including Attitudinal Healing Connection (ahc-oakland.org), Earn2Learn teen employment program as well as Black Love Movement (blacklovemovement.com) by assisting with providing food & sanitary/essential supplies for low-income/homeless community members.
